Moderator Capabilities

Employee Indicator

Having moderator permissions means your account will be marked as Staff. In the eyes of everyday users, you will be seen as a representative of the station and company brands. Please keep this in mind when making comments.

Community Guidelines

Please become familiar with the Community Guidelines. To encourage users to engage with each other in a constructive way, we ask them to follow our Community Guidelines. You can find a link to these guidelines at the top of every Conversation widget.

Available Actions

1. Feature a comment

a. You can “pin” a comment to the top of the conversation, superseding the automatic comment order based on user engagement.

2. Set a Community Question

a. By accessing the gear menu that the top of the conversation widget moderators can set a Community Question. This question will appear at the top of the conversation. The purpose of these questions is to spark user engagement.

3. Moderate the conversation

a. View User details: If you feel you need more information to decide whether to reject a comment or not, you can view a user’s commenting details.

b. Reject Comments: When accessing the menu to the right of a comment you will see an option to Reject. Doing so will remove that comment from the conversation.

c. Set to strict moderation: From the gear menu at the top of the conversation there is an option to set the moderation of a conversation to strict. Doing so raises the bar for the level of quality that all comments will have to meet to be seen. This is a good option for potentially sensitive stories. If things are still getting out of hand, the next step is to open a support ticket to have the comments closed for that story.

Commenting Support

1. For stories where the presents of comments would detract from the experience you can create a digital support ticket.

2. If you find a user is creating multiple accounts to avoid a ban create a ticket with digital support and include any of that users screen names, Support can perform an IP block on that user.
