Article 1: Creating basic standalone alert

Step 1: In the center of the Home page, click "New Alert" shortcut. Alternatively is to click on the "+ new alert" button on the Stories page.

NOTE: You may also create an alert from within your story package.

Step 2: Choose the Alert type. This will modify the color of the alert package.

Available alerts to choose from are General Alerts, Breaking News, Live Event, Radar, School Closure, Town Hall, & Weather.

NOTE: Selecting both an Alert Type and a Target are required for publication.

Step 3: Enter alert details.

Enter the title and summary for the alert. Both the alert title and alert summary will appear on desktop.  On mobile, only the alert title will display.

Use the primary link option to link to a specific story or section. Clicking on the alert's title or image will take the user to the URL for the linked content.

If the secondary links are populated, the secondary link titles will appear on the website alert and and link to the URLs populated.

When an alert thumbnail is chosen, that image will appear in the alert, except in the case of a radar alert, which will always have the live radar image. If no alert thumbnail is chosen, the default image for the alert type will be displayed.  Once an image is uploaded to an alert you will not be able to revert back to the default image.

Select a target property for the alert. The Target identifies the website property where the alert will be published.

Step 4: Publish this basic alert.

Step 5: View alert on website and mobile.

Desktop view with default image:

Mobile view with uploaded image & watch live alert.
