Article 6: Adjusting Start and Stop Times

This article shows you how to do the following:

  1. Adjust the start time to be earlier or later
  2. Adjust the end time to be earlier or later

When an overlap condition occurs, one of the following actions may be taken:

  1. If the adjusted program is partially overlapping another program, a warning will appear stating the overlapped program will be shortened.  If the move is accepted, the end of the overlapped program is cut off.
  2. If the adjusted program completely overlaps or covers another program, a warning will appear stating the covered program will be removed.  If the move is accepted, the overlapped program is removed.

Tips:

  • Notice that the program guide has a ruler showing 15-minute increments.  A program can be dragged/moved snaps to 5-minute increments.  With this data, most time adjustments can be made directly rather than going into the program and directly updating the time.
  • Changing the start time keeps the duration of the program.  However, changing the end time does not change the start time so the duration will change.

Remember: All changes on the guide must be published before they are made permanent.

Step 1: Adjust the start time on the "TENNIS2" show to be earlier.

Step 2: Change the start time to 05:45, and click "save". The end time automatically changes to 06:45.

When the start time is made earlier, the end time changes to keep the same duration.  Essentially, you moved the program to start earlier.  Alternatively, this could have been done by moving the program on the guide directly.

Step 3: You receive a warning message because the program will now overlap the program in front of it.

Since there is a program in front of it,  there will be an overlap condition.

Step 4: Since the program was moved forward on the timeline, there is now a gap.

For details on how to create a VOD that will fit a specific gap, see Article 7: Clip Live Video and Add to Program Guide

Step 5: Adjust the start time on the "TENNIS3" show to be later.

Step 6: Change the start time to be 06:30.

When the start time changes the end time is automatically changed to keep the same duration.

To avoid an overlap condition, drag/move "Roland Garros" to start at 7:30 pm and then move "TENNIS3" to 6:30 pm.

Step 7: Adjust the end time to be earlier.

If the end time is made earlier, the start time does not change and so the program now has a shorter duration.  This may cause a gap if there was a program following it.

For details on how to create a VOD that will fit a specific gap, see Article 7: Clip Live Video and Add to Program Guide

Step 8: Adjust the end time of the "Roland Garros" program to be later.

In this case, the end time was changed to be 10 minutes later.

If the end time is made later, the start time does not change and the program now has a longer duration.  This may cause an overlap condition.

To avoid an overlap, the program which follows can also be moved 10 minutes.  These moves can be made directly on the program guide.
